Alexa & Joe’s Glasshouse Community Wedding
If you’re dreaming of a light-filled wedding in a greenhouse setting, Alexa & Joe’s Glass House Community Wedding is the perfect inspiration. This West Michigan venue offers a stunning blend of nature and history, making it well worth the drive from Detroit, for me.
This wedding was particularly special because it was the second time I’ve worked with Alexa’s family. I previously photographed her brother and sister-in-law’s wedding. In the years since, they’ve gone on to start a family and their children played an important role as half of the flower girl and ring bearer team. Obviously, it was really special to be able to work with this family again. It was such a sweet reminder of how time passes and stories grow richer.
The Greenhouse Setting
The Glass House Community is a dream to photograph. Its greenhouse-style structure lets in streams of natural light, creating a warm and airy atmosphere. It feels like every photograph taken in that space glows. The country setting is as peaceful as it is inviting. Everywhere you look, the beauty of the outdoors is on display. I felt particularly lucky to be there right at the end of September, as the leaves were just starting to change! Also, am I the only one who sees Julia Roberts, when I look at Alexa? Joe didn’t look too shabby in his green suit either. Honestly, the two of them looked like they had stepped straight off the top of a wedding cake.
A Celebration Full of Laughter
One of my favorite parts of Alexa & Joe’s Glass House Community Wedding was just how funny their families are. Occasionally I get to photograph a wedding where the toasts have me in stitches. This was one of those weddings. The speeches had laughter bouncing off every pane in the greenhouse. Even Alexa’s grandmother, while offering a heartfelt blessing, managed to slip in some perfectly timed jokes. When I’m not photographing weddings, I moonlight as a standup comedian. I think that’s why toasts have always been one of my favorite parts of the wedding day. I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a speech that is not only truly sincere, but also deeply funny.
Why I Love Photographing Glass House Community Weddings
As a wedding photographer, I’m always looking for venues that combine unique character with incredible light. Glass House Community obviously checks every box. It’s the kind of place that feels personal and cinematic at the same time. It’s perfect for couples who want their wedding day to feel both natural and elevated. Alexa & Joe’s day was a beautiful reminder of why oftentimes, the best backdrops are the ones designed when humans and Mother Nature work together.
