I had to wait until the sun consistently returned to start blogging some of my winter weddings. Now that spring has sprung, and the view out my window is full of blue skies and daffodils, I’m ready to start with Cali and Nate. They had a beautiful winter wedding last December at the Jam Handy. Cali & Nate had such timeless style, and Miranda from Spoke Events helped to bring it all together.
The day started in Corktown, where Cali & Nate got ready. We moved on to the Fisher Building, one of my favorite spots on the city for photos (especially when you need to stay out of the cold), and then headed over to the Jam Handy for their ceremony and reception.
I want to take a moment to talk about how wonderfully Cali & Nate honored their families during their wedding. They were married by Cali’s brother with both of their sisters and Nate’s daughter, Taylor, by their side. The speeches were full of tears and laughter and laughter tears (the best kind). They visited guests during their reception while holding the hands of their flower girls and nieces. I come from a blended family myself. My dad remarried when I was about the same age as Nate’s daughter, so I was especially touched by the bond Cali and Taylor have fostered. Seeing tears on Taylor’s face and the way she embraced her new stepmom moments after the ceremony had my viewfinder getting a little foggy. I’m sure my eyes were just watering from some dust in the venue. The Jam Handy is historic after all.
I say it all the time, but it’s an honor to do this work, and it’s especially an honor to see three people become a family the way Cali, Nate, & Taylor did.
Thanks for having me Cali & Nate. It was an honor.
