This is a post about Brooke and Jensen but it’s also a post about sincerity. This was one of those wedding days where you could feel how important it was to everyone involved, how much they respected the occasion, how proud they were of these two young people for committing themselves to one another, and how happy they were to be present. It was just one of those days where the sincerity and well wishes of everyone in attendance could not be questioned. I go to a lot of weddings, but this one stands out. Aside from one phone call about a missing bouquet and some last minute prayers about the weather, no one worried about a thing. No one got caught up in the things that don’t matter. Everyone just radiated positivity. Also, I may be biased but I feel like this might be the most beautiful wedding at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial to ever take place. I loved how Brooke and Jensen utilized so many spaces in the house. It really felt like a really beautiful dinner party at home, more than an overly orchestrated and formal wedding (which is hard to avoid when you’re in a century’s old mansion by the water).
I try to always remind couples that the best way to get good wedding photos is to trust the process and try to enjoy it. I didn’t have to do much reminding with Brooke and Jensen. Their ease and comfort with one another was palpable and once they were together, they couldn’t help but enjoy their wedding day because they can’t help but enjoy one another. I just feel lucky that they chose me to be the one to document it.
